Solana Beach accepting applications for commission openings

by Luke Harold

Solana Beach residents can apply for any of the 16 open positions on the city’s citizen commissions through Jan. 20, the city announced.

There are currently two vacancies on the Budget and Finance Commission, which advises the City Council on the city budget. The five-member commission meets on Mondays preceding the second council meeting of the month in February, March, June, August and November, in addition to any special meetings.

Four seats are available on the nine-member Climate and Resiliency Commission, which monitors the city’s greenhouse gas emissions and efforts to implement the Climate Action Plan. Meeting dates this calendar year are Jan. 21, March 18, May 20, July 22, Sept.16 and Nov. 4.

Three out of seven seats are open on the Parks and Recreation Commission, which oversees parks and certain city events. The commission meets on the second Thursday of each month.

There are three openings on the Public Arts Advisory Commission, which has seven total seats and meets on the fourth Tuesday every month. The commission helps oversee art in the community and certain events.

Four of seven seats are available on the View Assessment Commission, which reviews certain proposed development. The commission meets on the second Tuesday of every month.

The positions are all two-year terms. All candidates have to be at least 18 years old and a Solana Beach resident. The Budget and Finance and View Assessment commissions also require applicants to be property owners in Solana Beach.
