One person was killed and three others were seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash in Pala early Sunday morning, according to California Highway Patrol officers.

The crash occurred when a 21-year-old Pala man driving a Dodge Durango SUV allegedly lost control and the vehicle spun into an opposing lane of traffic on eastbound state Route 76 near Magee Road around 1:45 a.m., CHP investigators said.

The right side of the Dodge then collided with the front of a westbound Honda Civic, driven by a 54-year-old man from Apple Valley, investigators said.

A passenger in the Honda died at the scene, CHP officers said. Her name will be released by the county Medical Examiner’s Office pending notification of her family.

The Honda’s driver, as well as the Dodge’s driver and his 25-year-old passenger, were transported to a hospital with serious injuries, investigators said.

The driver of the Dodge, Antonio Albert Gonzalez III, was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and other charges, Gerber said. Online jail records indicate he could be arraigned Thursday.
