SeaWeeders Garden Club receives Greening Award from assemblymember

by Luke Harold

The SeaWeeders Garden Club is one of the 2025 recipients of the California State Assembly District 77th Environmental Hero Awards.

A ceremony took place at Del Mar City Hall on Oct. 11. The SeaWeeders received the Greening Award, one of multiple awards in different categories.

“The SeaWeeders sustain the long history of community beautification begun by our Civic & Historical Society founders, the Solana Beach Women’s Civic Club,” the club said in an announcement. “Over the decades, Club projects have included landscaping along Hwy. 101 and at the Plaza, median landscape designs on Lomas Santa Fe and Highland Drives, renovation of the Post Office garden (which our volunteers still tend) and El Viento pocket park, and our ongoing partnership with the City of Solana Beach to expand pollinator habitat through the Mayor’s Monarch Pledge, including at our community garden along the Coastal Rail Trail.”

Last year’s Greening Award recipient was Rob Hutsel, president and CEO of the San Diego River Park Foundation.

Award winners, who all reside within the 77th assembly district, are first considered through a nomination process. Residents can submit nominations for people and organizations to show “significant contributions in their respective communities, and describe how their volunteerism and efforts have positively impacted the communities in which they serve.” This year’s nomination period ran through Aug. 25.
