Preview: Tritons take on Temple from holiday tournament

Last time out: UCSD overcame a 13-point, first-half deficit to defeat Idaho 75-67 on Nov. 15 at LionTree Arena. The Tritons outscored the Vandals 49-31 in the second half. Tom Beattie shared UCSD’s scoring lead with 15 points while leading the team with seven rebounds and six assists. Leo Beath had 15 points and six rebounds, while Aidan Burke had 13 points.

Series history: First meeting.

Owls notes: Temple has wins over Delaware State, La Salle and Hofstra and lost 76-71to Boston College. Guard Derrian Ford leads the Owls at 18.5 points per game, while guard Alden Tobiason is averaging 18.0 points a game.  Gavin Griffiths is averaging 13.2 points and shooting 44% from 3-point range. Jordan Mason is at 10.5 ppg.

Tritons notes: UC San Diego is at the start of a 34-day span between home games. The Tritons’ next home game is Dec. 19 against USD. Before they return home, the Tritons will travel 6,042 miles. Beath was named the Big West Conference Player of the Week for Nov. 10-16 after scoring 37 points and pulling down 14 rebounds in the Tritons’ wins over Fresno State and Idaho. Beath leads UCSD in scoring with 17.0 points a game, while Beattie is second at 15.3. They are tied for the lead in rebounds with 5.5 per game.
